On Wednesday 14th April, the day before Emily’s 14th birthday, UEA Estates team planted a beautiful cherry in memory of Emily Oakes-Buckingham, CONSC swimmer and friend. Please say hello and stop to enjoy the tree kindly planted next to her favourite place, the Sportspark.
Emily’s family shared the following words:
Emily lived, and loved, to swim. As with everything she did, she invested all of her passion and energy into it. Her friends and her squad were an essential part of her life and attending training was never a chore. Even swimming galas were happy days spent with friends, despite the anxiety of the competition. Sportspark was a place she looked forward to going to; she even enjoyed her journey to and from the car park, leapfrogging all the bins!
We are so proud of the young woman she was becoming and the positive effect she had on so many people. She will be sorely missed by many and this memorial for Emily to be remembered by her friends, family and coaches is truly appreciated.
Thank you to everyone whose contributions made this a reality in a location that she really loved and spent many happy times.
