CONSC Lanzarote Swim Camp 2025

Wednesday 12 March 2025

A group of 40 dedicated swimmers, aged 11 to 16, and six team staff recently took part in an exciting and intense training camp at the renowned Club La Santa in Lanzarote. This unique camp offered a combination of rigorous swim sessions, personal development, and a variety of fun activities, all set in a beautiful and inspiring environment. It wasn’t just about swimming faster—it was about building life skills, improving technique, and enjoying every moment of the journey.

New Life Skills for Success

One of the highlights of the camp was how the swimmers gained valuable life skills that will benefit them beyond the pool. They were introduced to concepts like biomechanics in swimming, where they learned how to analyze their own strokes to enhance efficiency and performance. Swimmers worked with video analysis, giving them the tools to visualize their movements and make adjustments in real time.

Meditation and relaxation techniques also played a key role in helping swimmers maintain calm and focus, especially when preparing for big races. Learning to control their nerves and stay grounded on the main stage was a skill that many of them found invaluable. In addition, there were lessons on hydration—how to keep the body fuelled and properly hydrated to ensure peak performance throughout the training camp and beyond. Understanding the importance of hydration helped swimmers feel energised and recover more efficiently.

Psychology was another important aspect of the camp, with athletes learning about mental resilience and strategies to stay positive during tough periods that life can give us. This mental edge, combined with the physical improvements they were making, empowered each swimmer to push their limits and embrace the challenges ahead.

Improved Training Techniques and Hard Work

Every swim session at Club La Santa was packed with new drills, techniques, and challenging sets. The swimmers focused on fine-tuning their strokes, improving their endurance, and learning new ways to approach every aspect of their training. Whether it was refining their starts, turns, or breathing patterns, each swimmer left the pool feeling like they had achieved something meaningful and made tangible improvements. The hard work they put in was evident, as they showed great determination and commitment in every session.

The addition of pre- and post-pool workouts was another essential component of the training. These workouts helped the swimmers build strength, flexibility, and mobility, which in turn supported their performance in the water. By focusing on a holistic approach to training, the swimmers were able to balance their swim sets with injury prevention and recovery strategies.

The food provided throughout the week was exceptional, offering nutritious and balanced meals that supported the swimmer’s recovery and needs. The emphasis on quality nutrition played a crucial role in the athletes’ recovery, ensuring they were well-fuelled for the next day’s activities.

Fun Team-Building Activities

While the camp was challenging, it also featured plenty of opportunities for fun and team bonding. Swimmers participated in exciting team-building exercises, including paddle boarding, kayaking, and volleyball. These activities not only allowed swimmers to relax and unwind but also helped to foster a strong sense of camaraderie and teamwork within the group.

Some mornings began with a dynamic gymnastic session designed to get everyone ready for the day, stretching and strengthening the muscles needed for swimming. The swimmers also enjoyed some more unique activities offered by Club La Santa, such as body combat classes and even mini golf. These activities helped the athletes stay physically engaged, relieve stress, and experience the variety that makes the training camp so enjoyable.

A Week of Growth and Achievement

The training camp at Club La Santa was more than just an opportunity to improve as swimmers; it was a week of growth, learning, and achievement. The athletes walked away from the camp with new swimming skills, a greater understanding of their bodies and minds, and a host of valuable lessons that they could carry with them throughout their swimming careers.

By combining hard work, skill development, mental strength, and fun, this camp proved to be a life-changing experience for each of the 46 team members. Their progress in the water and their personal development will serve them well as they continue on their swimming journey. As they left Lanzarote, the swimmers were not only stronger in their swimming technique but also more confident, focused, and ready to take on the challenges of the future. A great thank you to the team staff who supported the swimmers for this camp.
