Report from Beth Coombs – National Age Coach
On July 24th – 25th we had 9 National Age swimmers represent our club at the 2021 SEER Future Champions Meet in Basildon. This was the first competition away from home for most swimmers – which you would never have known! All swimmers were able to adjust to new processes which have been put in place due to the current coronavirus pandemic and took everything in their stride. All swimmers who attended the meet represented the Club in an outstanding manner and should be proud of themselves and their achievements.
On the Saturday we saw swims from Annika, Esme, Evie, Hannah, Isabelle, Jennifer and Olivia. All girls smashed their PB’s in a variety of events including 50m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 50m breaststroke and 100m freestyle. Annika won 3rd place in the women’s 10 years 100m breaststroke with a huge 11 second PB, 2nd in the women’s 10 years 50m breaststroke and 1st in the 100m freestyle. Incredible swims from all girls on Saturday, which continued on the Sunday.
Annika, Dylan, Esme, Evie, Jennifer, Michael and Olivia swam on the Sunday in a variety of events, again all smashing their PB’s.
We saw Evie place 2nd in the women’s 11 years 50m butterfly with a huge 2 second PB on a 50! All swimmers were able to put in practice their process goals and feedback which we have been working on in training. These processes are the key things which allowed them to achieve their PB’s and it was great to see everyone’s hard work paying off.
A massive well done to all swimmers at this meet. You all did yourselves proud and are a huge credit to the club. Your hard work, perseverance and passion for your sport never goes unnoticed. You have achieved so much especially with all of the barriers which we have faced in the last year and a half.
Lastly, thank you to the Swim England East Region for putting on such a great meet which was enjoyed by all. It was so great to be back!
